Cathedral Rock

The Cathedral Rock hike is a beautiful 13km hike, northwards, from Mbotyi.

It starts on the Mboyti beach, and heads along cattle paths onto the beautiful Drew’s Camp Beach. This long beach has a beautiful backdrop of lush forests, cliff faces, waterfalls and hidden lagoons.

At the end of the beach, one will ascend up the back of the prominent and iconic Sugarloaf hillock. On top, the terrain opens up into vast grasslands which are scattered with cattle and boast dramatic views down onto the ocean far below the cliffs.

As you peer over the edge you will see the stubborn structure of Cathedral Rock which stands isolated from the sandstone cliffs.

This is an impressive feature and if the timing is right one is able to take stunning photographs as the light streams through the holes in the “Cathedral” and catches the haze coming up off the ocean below.

Depending on team morale, one can either push forward to have a swim in the Mamba Pools or head back to a small, protected estuary at Drew’s camp for some relaxation and lunch before heading home.
