The Transkei boasts diverse wildlife in just about all its forms. From mammals and birds to reptiles, there is something to see for anyone. Pictured to the right are just some of the interesting species you might find in and around Mbotyi.
Mammals and Reptiles
Without having to journey to far from Mbotyi, one can find themself in a number of different habitats. Each supporting its own host of indigenous mammals. Recent re-introduction of some large antelope species to nearby reserves offers visitors an opportunity to see small and large game in the wild.

Transkei BIG 5
One cannot consider the animals of the Wild Coast without without paying homage to the Transkei’s very own Big 5. This includes the beach loving Nguni cattle, indigenous “Veld” goats, pigs, sheep, and donkeys.
